Retro Hits is a collection of information on Top 40 and Number One hits during the Rock and Roll era (starting in 1955). This site covers the years from 1955 to 1999. Most of the information focuses on the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, but some of the site covers the other decades as well. Also here is a list of site links of interest to Retro fans. To start your journey through time, see the sections below.
Whether it's oldies, "retro hits," "retro songs", or whatever you call them, Retro Hits is inspired by the Top 40 Hits and Number Ones of the past. And the Billboard Magazine Hot 100 chart, which provides the Top 40 hits charts, has inspired the changes at Retro Hits. The "chart look" describes the changes as seen below:
This mimics the look of the Billboard Hot 100 pop music charts. Just a little something to create some nostalgia for Top 40 music fans. The fonts throughout the site reflect this change.

This makes it easier for you, the site guest, to navigate your way between top 40 hits pages, number ones pages, trivia pages, specific years, etc. If you want to switch between top 40 hits, number one hits, or any other page, this makes it so you don't have to backtrack, or hit the "Back" button on your browser constantly. These same navigation links are added to the bottom of each page as well.
Other changes on this site should make it easier for your favorite search engine to find Retro Hits. Of course, you can help, too! If you have friends who enjoy content like what's found here, pass the word along and refer them to Retro Hits.
Content on this site is the same as before. Soon the lists of top 40 hits from 1992 to 1999 will be added, plus a grid of all of the top 40 hits on the various charts from the beginning of 1955 through July, 1958. The color scheme of each new page is the same as before, with only a handful of pages being slightly different.
Some minor "tweaks" will happen as time goes on, with added features and graphics changing. More often than not, more will be added to Retro Hits to celebrate the top 40 hits and number one songs from the Billboard charts from 1955 to 1999.
Another item in the planning stages is a list of radio stations across the U.S. that play top 40 oldies, "retro" songs, and others that play the music that visitors of this site like. This list may include a list of all of these stations, plus a searchable database to find the particular station, area, or format you are seeking. All of this is in the planning stage at this time.
One more thing you need to know: the original Retro Hits site has been archived. Visit this site at: http://www.geocities.com/stowellred_2000/RetroArchives/index.htm. Just keep in mind that this archived version will disappear after October 26, 2009. On this date, GeoCities will no longer exist.
I have made attempts to have the Internet Archive site archive Retro Hits in its original form. Please check back with them to see how things have progressed. Meanwhile...

The Decades Section features lists of top 40 and number one hit songs by year, according to Billboard Magazine charts. The 1950's section lists all of the number one hits from 1955 through 1959. It also lists the golden oldies - the top 40 hits - from August, 1958 to the end of 1959, the era of Billboard's Hot 100 pop chart. The 1960's, 1970's, and 1980's sections list all of the "oldies" and "retro hits" that were top 40 hits during each year of each decade along with interesting news items from each year. These sections, like the 1950s section, include all of the number one hits for each year. The 1990's section includes the "retro" top 40 hits up to 1991, and all of each year's number one hits through 1999.
The Trivia Section lists One Hit Wonders of each year from 1970 to 1995. Number One Trivia lists interesting tidbits about the chart toppers!.
